Modern cars have the so-called on-board diagnostics (OBD) interface. This globally standardized OBD socket enables vehicle-specific data to be read, the control units in the vehicle to be programmed and additional vehicle keys to be programmed. Car thieves use this open interface to tamper with the immobilizer. The immobilizer is deactivated within a few seconds or a new key has been programmed. For this reason, we recommend installing the OBD socket somewhere else in the vehicle. With a cable length of 2 meters, you can install your OBD socket in the glove compartment, under the seat or in the center console, for example. We supply two different versions. The OBD-V100 is an extension cable with a protective cover for loose installation. With the OBD-P100, you can use the bracket to permanently mount the OBD socket at another location in the vehicle.

Legal notice

The plug should be within one meter of the driver, usually under the dashboard or under the ashtray. According to the requirements of the OBD standards, the manufacturer is obliged to install the plug there.

Installation note

If the cable is 1 meter long, you should not wind up excess cable into a ring (coil). It is better to use a shorter version of the OBD safety cable. If possible, avoid laying the cable together with other wiring harnesses or control units in the vehicle. These precautionary measures are intended to prevent any impairment of communication between the car and the diagnostic system. In addition, the installation location of the OBD socket should be chosen so that it is accessible during a test drive. This is because emissions tests are also carried out during test drives.
