The ML 1800.3 Legend was designed and developed for enthusiasts who want to compete and need a component that combines the tonal accuracy of the ML 1650.3 Legend with the extension to lower frequencies, which, thanks to the larger exit area, higher load capacity and control, usually only a 50mm voice coil can provide. To achieve these results, the development department made extensive audits in the vehicle, after which various prototypes were built using the FEA simulation method and then tested using a variety of measurements with Klippel® instruments.

As with the settings for competing vehicles, the edging must pass the most extreme working conditions to ensure maximum stability and symmetry, even at high deflections, and thus to influence and expand to lower frequency ranges. For this reason, the electroacoustic designers have developed a novel surround basket adhesive system called "Boundary Free Surround". This technology offers the possibility to get a wider emission area of ​​the cone compared to speakers with the same diameter. In this way, the cone makes it possible to move a larger mass of air so that a higher sound pressure is produced.
